The Road Accident Fund is a social security Fund that provides compensation to all drivers of motor vehicles in South Africa in respect of liability incurred or damage caused as a result of a traffic collision. Liability incurred in relation to property damage (such as damage to vehicles, buildings, vehicle contents) is excluded from cover.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position that offers a competitive salary of R434,656.00 per annum, and the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of road accident victims. Purpose of the Job:

As an Officer: Claims Investigation, you will play a critical role in supporting the RAF’s claims process. Your responsibilities will include investigating accidents, validating claims, and providing administrative support to ensure timely and accurate compensation for those affected by road accidents.

The key focus of the role is to:

  • Investigate claims by tracing insured drivers and witnesses, obtaining statements, and gathering relevant evidence such as photographs and accident sketches.
  • Ensure that all supporting documents, including employment details and affidavits, are properly verified and assessed for accuracy.
  • Detect potential fraud or corruption and escalate findings to the Forensic Investigation Department (FID).
  • Provide administrative support, including document validation, loss of earnings verification, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, offering advice and handling complaints related to claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Investigation and Assessment of Claims:
    • Trace insured drivers and witnesses to collect statements and accident dockets.
    • Ensure proper accident scene documentation through photographs and sketches.
    • Validate affidavits from claimants, witnesses, and employers.
    • Identify fraud and corruption, escalating findings to the Forensic Investigation Department.
    • Provide court testimony in fraud cases when required.
  2. Administrative Support:
    • Verify and validate supporting documents related to quantum investigations (e.g. employment, maternity, and SARS documents).
    • Conduct thorough investigations using Natis and Cross Check systems to verify claimant and accident details.
    • Provide progress reports in line with internal service level agreements.
  3. Document and Records Management:
    • Administer the effective filing and retrieval of records in accordance with the RAF filing plan.
    • Maintain confidentiality of documents and ensure timely delivery of correspondence to relevant recipients.
  4. Stakeholder Management:
    • Advise claimants, witnesses, and other parties on the claims process.
    • Address complaints related to claims assessments.
    • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

To apply, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in a related field.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is essential for this position.
  • Training: Completion of formal investigator training is an advantage, as is certification as a fraud examiner.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar environment. Experience in merit and quantum investigations will be highly beneficial.
